Pinterest Launches First U.S. Advertising Campaign

Pinterest is unlike any other digital media platform. Pinterest users everywhere know this and that’s why they continue to use it. Other social media platforms revolve around having the most likes and engagement. The goal for many Pinterest users is to find something that inspires them. For example, when I was trying to think of how I wanted to decorate my graduation cap, I went to Pinterest. Right away, I found thousands of ideas and now I know what I want to do. Pinterest is a space for you to share and find ideas. As other large networks copy parts of their app, Pinterest is launching a new advertising campaign to gain more users.

CEO Ben Silbermann said that “The No. 1 challenge is getting people to understand that Pinterest isn’t a social network.” It’s a place for you to be inspired and try new ideas. They plan to deliver this message through billboards, websites, newspapers, and magazines. Creative director Janet Champ is working with the company to highlight users who “went from dreaming about their life to designing it”, which is exactly what Pinterest wants its users to do. Even though competition is rising for Pinterest, Silbermann admits that advertising isn’t the most effective way to add users; it’s through improving the product. Are you a Pinterest user? What would entice you to download and use the app?
