Facebook’s newest ad format now allows brands to pair commercials with product information and pictures in the same post. Ultimately, Facebook is looking for users to start using it more as a shopping tool.
For years, Facebook has tried to get users to shop through the social media site with buy buttons, in-platform stores, chatbots, and its own Craigslist competitor for users to sell their own stuff. Its efforts to turn into an e-commerce site have been less than successful, but Facebook’s new ad format, also known as Collections, is hoping to turn that around. A Facebook spokesperson wrote, “Three in four consumers say that watching videos on social media influences their purchasing decisions, which is why we designed collection.” Maybe video is the answer for aligning Facebook with shopping.
